3W Networks to implement DCC telecom network for DEWA
Siemens, AG has selected 3W networks to implement the Distribution Control Centre Telecoms Network (DCC) for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, (DEWA).
A reliable telecommunications system adapted to the specific needs is indispensable for the operation of the power network, the telecommunication network has to cater for the transmission of voice and SCADA data between the substations and DCC as well as on the links between the substations themselves.
3W Networks partnered with Europe’s leading manufacturers of Optical transmission equipment to provide a robust and reliable telecommunication network by using advanced SDH and Access multiplexers. The Network Management System employed a service guard to provide synchronization between redundant servers.
The scope of work called for supply installation, testing and commissioning of a new SCADA control centre. The main contract was awarded to Siemens AG, Germany and 3W Networks was appointed the sub contractor for the Telecoms 3W Networks was selected because of its Local Presence, Strong Engineering capabilities and its knowledge of optical transmission equipments. An integrated acceptance testing regime was conducted by both DEWA and Siemens at 3W Networks Local Integration Centre based in Jebel Ali Office.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January 1992, to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently. Today DEWA employs a workforce of about 4,000 employees who look after the needs of the Emirate of Dubai and its ever growing demand for electricity and water.
