3W Networks to carry out telecom scope of Saudi Aramco Safaniya Upgrade Crude Gathering & Power Supply Project

J. Ray McDermott Middle East Inc. (McDermott) has awarded 3W Networks the telecom scope for Saudi Aramco’s Safaniya Upgrade Crude Gathering & Power Supply Project.

Safaniya, the world’s largest offshore field, is located about 200 km north of Dhahran. The infrastructure upgrade and electrification project will help sustain crude oil production to meet Saudi Aramco’s maximum sustainable capacity targets for the field by 2013.

3W Networks, the region’s leading telecom and security systems integrator, has been awarded the communications scope to support the Safaniya offshore platforms.

The telecommunications scope for 3W Networks includes the Detailed Design, Engineering, Procurement, Systems Integration, Integrated Factory Acceptance Test and the Installation & Commissioning of Voice & Data, Telephony and UHF Radio system, as well as Fibre Optic Cable and Accessories.

The offshore platforms will have monitoring and control equipment that require communication services to transport data signals to the SCADA system. Communication links will be designed to facilitate the transport of the data signals via an Ethernet network by using fibre optic cables. The connectivity between the Ethernet Switches at all the offshore platforms will be in a ring configuration for redundancy and protection.

3W Networks will provide the active and passive infrastructure for the Voice and Data communication services as well as carry out the necessary splicing and termination of the fiber optic cables.

Walid Gamali, CEO, 3W Networks says, “We are very pleased to partner with McDermott to work on this project for Saudi Aramco. We are confident in our ability to meet Aramco’s expectations for this important project. 3W Networks will leverage its Saudi Arabia based subsidiary 3W‐MMG to deliver this project and shall be supported by the Regional Engineering Center based in the UAE.”

The award of this project further validates 3W Networks position as the Telecommunications Systems Integrator of choice in the region.
