3W Networks selected to provide communication & security solutions for DEWA Transmission Control Centre
Siemens AG is implementing a Transmission Control Centre in the emirate of Dubai for the local electricity and water authority, DEWA. The control centre for the power transmission network consists of two SCADA/EMS/DTS systems in multi-site configurations and 3W Networks has been selected to provide the Telecommunications and Security solution for the control centre.
Control centres play a key role in power generation and transmission from different power plants to consumers and they serve as a centre of coordination with other units for stable, secure and efficient operations. This Project requires the implementation of a new Transmission Control Centre to monitor the 400kV and 132kV substations including generating units in the emirate of Dubai.
Due to the complex nature of the processes managed by a control centre, the availability of a high capacity telecommunications backbone network is of paramount importance. 3W Networks will provide the telecoms backbone network for this project. The scope of work includes Detailed Design & Engineering, Procurement, Systems Integration, Factory Acceptance Testing, Installation & Commissioning, Site Acceptance Testing, Training and Warranty. The systems that form the Telecoms and Security Infrastructure for the control centre include advanced high capacity SDH, Access Multiplexers, CCTV, Access Control and an upgrade of existing Network Management System.
3W Networks was selected because of its Local Engineering Presence and Capability to provide complete and integrated telecom solutions.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January 1992, to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently. Today DEWA employs a workforce of about 4,000 employees who look after the needs of the Emirate of Dubai and its ever growing demand for electricity and water.
